What a week we just had!
From David Hundeyin’s piece about Kiki Mordi, to Bola Tinubu’s absence as campaign season kicks off in Nigeria, to some PDP bigwigs returning huge sums in bribe money, social media was kept alight.
Here’s a quick run down of the stories that kept us clicking at links all week long:
1. Where is Tinubu?
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has kept tongues wagging and social media fingers twitching, since he disappeared from the political stomp grounds in recent times.
The man has been declared missing on social media.
Tinubu went missing as presidential candidates signed a peace accord in Abuja, he was nowhere to be found as campaign season officially kicked off in Nigeria, and he wrapped up a most interesting week by sending us a proof of life video that has left young social media savvy users in stitches.
The Jagaban has become the gift that keeps on giving, this political season.
Speculations have been rife that Tinubu is managing a health condition. His camp and the man himself have repeatedly debunked those speculations.
2. Campaign season begins
On September 28, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifted the ban on electioneering campaign activities ahead of the 2023 vote.
True to our predictions in this very exciting piece, politicians have begun using songs of Afrobeats superstars to drive home their messages from gyms, from studios; and the decibel levels of politicking have gone up several notches on social media platforms.
At least you can’t say we never did anything for you….
3. David Hundeyin just won’t let Kiki Mordi be
Self-styled investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, has a thing for not letting go once he’s dug his heels into a story.
Kiki Mordi, who was the face of the BBC’s Sex-For-Grades exposé of 2019, continues to be dragged quarterly and every market day by Hundeyin.
There’s been no love lost between the pair for as long as anyone can remember.
Hundeyin maintains that Ms Mordi stole the idea and concept of the story from a colleague who has since been identified as Oge Obi. He also alleges that Mordi slept her way through to get the role of anchor for the investigative piece.
This week, Hundeyin and Mordi took to microblogging site, Twitter, to hurl even more insults at themselves, with Oge providing even more ammunition from the flanks.
The attacks were personal and brutal. You really should go look them up yourselves because as you already know, we’ve got another long week ahead of us.
4. Gangsta in Paradise passes on
Last week, we lost veteran U.S rapper Coolio, who was born Artis Ivey Junior.
He passed on at 59.
Some of Coolio’s biggest hits were ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ (which won him a Grammy); C U when U Get There; 1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New), among others.
May his soul continue to rest in peace.
5. Popularity contest between Beyonce and Ronaldo
Last week, Twitter again delved into banal argument territory, pitting football great Cristiano Ronaldo against pop singer Beyonce and making us read through threads and threads of who is the most popular globally.
I mean, who does that?
Fans of both icons did everything to win their own sides of the argument and like you guessed, the memes, pictures and skits couldn’t stop rolling.
We’d pass.
6. PDP Elders return millions in alleged bribe money
Sometimes, the PDP is proof that old habits die hard or Leopards don’t alter their skins, hard as they may try.
Last week, some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) returned about N122.4 million in alleged bribes, to the party.
In separate correspondences to the PDP, the NWC members said the monies had been paid into their accounts at various times without their knowledge.
You certainly can’t beat that, can you?
We’ve got the full gist here for you.
