In the letter, Abaribe blamed his exit on the “shameful display of illegality, impunity, and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.”
He further revealed to Channels TV that he will move to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), where he will run for the 2023 Abia South Senatorial race.
Also in a letter addressed to Senate President, Sen Ahmad Lawan on Thursday, May 26, 2022, Abaribe stated his resignation as Senate Minority Leader, following his exit from the PDP.
“This also means my resignation as Minority Leader of the Senate,” Abaribe wrote.
“I wish to thank you and my dear colleagues in the leadership of the Senate for the warm camaraderie we enjoyed while I was Minority Leader.”
