The Supreme Court in a judgement on Friday, May 27, 2022, dismissed an appeal by frontline All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi, to stop a N96bn probe by the Rivers State Government.
The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal as lacking in merit, as Amaechi is neither on trial nor indicted in the probe.
Amaechi filed the appeal in reaction to a seven-man panel set up by Governor Nyesom Wike to investigate the alleged withdrawal of N96bn from the Rivers State treasury during his term as governor from 2007-2015.

He asked the court to stop the probe into his tenure as Rivers Governor, as it was aimed at witch hunting, humiliating and denting his political aspirations.
However, in its judgement on Friday, the Supreme Court said “the appeal fails as it lacks merit”, going further to order Amaechi to pay the respondents N1million.
