Workers of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) have staged a protest at their head office in Abuja over delays in the implementation of their salary adjustment.
The protesters shut down all the activities of the agency during the protest that took place on Thursday.
The protesters who stormed the NSITF offices in the early hours of Thursday, with speakers and chanting solidarity songs, were armed with different placards carrying different inscriptions such as “Our pensions are not remitted after deduction,” “Say no to old salary regime,” ” Ngige don’t kill NSITF,” among others.
It was gathered that ASSBIFI, an affiliate of the trade union congress (TUC) and NUBIFI, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), have held several meetings with the NSITF management and the ministry of Labour and Employment, but the meetings have not brought solution to their demands.
The protesters who came from the agency’s various branches, said that the NSITF management had agreed to begin the implementation of the new salary adjustment and review from January 2023, but they kept shifting the date.
They promised not to leave the environment until the needful is done.
