Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, has come under heavy fire on Twitter, following his remarks on the investments made by Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whilst the latter held sway as governor of the southeastern state from 2006 to 2014.
Soludo has been one of Twitter’s ‘sweethearts governors’ since he was sworn-in in March, but no longer, it appears. The guns have been turned on him overnight.
Responding to a question on Thursday, November 10, 2022, as a guest on Channels TV’s Politics Today on the current worth of the investments made by Obi, Soludo dismissed them, saying that they are worth next to nothing.
Obi has been boasting about his investments as Anambra governor, since he set out his stall for a presidential run last Spring.
But Soludo, who succeeded Willie Obiano, isn’t impressed. “I don’t know about the investments. Our interview is about the 2023 budget. I’m not talking about the investments of any of my predecessors. By the way, the one that you talked about..I don’t know about that.
“I think there was something I read about somebody speculating about whatever investment. With what I’ve seen today, the value of those investments is worth next to nothing. So, let’s leave that aside.”
Following Soludo’s remarks, Twitter users, especially from the Obidient end of the political spectrum, came down hard on the governor for dissing their candidate.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times;
@BOGbadams I am beyond disgusted with Soludo ignoring Obiano & blaming Obi for the failure of investments he handed over to Obiano. He showed a dark side of himself today that I think is driven by his own Presidential ambition. He wants to stop any Igbo man from getting it before himself.
@Nedunaija: LOL. Did you notice where Soludo said, derisively, “that’s part of institutionalizing govt and not I, I,”. That’s where his envy for Peter Obi slipped out of his mouth unknowingly. Peter Obi’s rise eats him up. He sees himself as the one who should be running for president.
@DanielRegha: Peter Obi’s investments in Anambra isn’t worth next to nothing, that’s an unwise statement from Soludo; Any investment in a state that profits the people, no matter how small, is worth celebrating. I get Soludo is trying to play politics, but he shouldn’t trade his credibility.
@spotlight_Abby: So Peter Obi visited Onitsha Drug Market (ogbo ogwu) that got burnt some days ago, before Soludo, the current governor of Anambra State? Oh now I get where the whining is coming from! OK, I now get it! Mhmmm..Crab mentality will not let some people be great.
@AfamDeluxo: Charles Soludo needs to chill a little. This same investment is the biggest employer of labour in Onitsha and probably South-East. How is it next to nothing bikonu? Politics sha.
@FS_Yusuf_ : Soludo never start work o. He don start come TV come misyarn. Na Peter Obi handover to am!?
@iamfearlessking: Soludo talking about Peter Obi is akin to Graham Potter blaming Jose Mourinho for his failures as a coach at Chelsea.
@ChigozieIAlex: The funny thing is, most of the people excited about Chukwuma Soludo’s show of envy for Peter Obi last night through his unguarded comments about him don’t know he’s part of Buhari’s Economic team headed by Mr Jerry Curl Rewane. I hope y’all are enjoying the Buhari economy.
@von_Bismack: Very obvious at this point that Soludo is not going for 2nd term.
@Nkemchor: Soludo’s predecessor was Obiano. Obiano left a huge debt and didn’t build on Peter Obi’s legacy in Anambra State but @CCSoludo thinks it’s Obi’s fault. Will it make sense if we blamed Soludo for the current mess Godwin Emefiele put us in? After all he was once a CBN Governor too.
@oyinkitana: When Soludo was CBN Governor, he encouraged Nigerians to invest in shares, anyone who invested in shares can testify that those investments are worth next to nothing in today’s market.
