Leader of pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has accused APC Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, of instigating crises and in-fighting within Afenifere since he emerged Governor of Lagos in 1999.
Adebanjo has also described Tinubu as a traitor of Yoruba-land–Nigeria’s cosmopolitan southwestern region.
Adebanjo tells Quest Times in an exclusive chat in his Lagos home, that Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s recent endorsement of Tinubu’s presidential bid, is in keeping with how Jagaban has been manipulating Afenifere since he emerged Lagos Governor.
He also accuses Tinubu of dividing Afenifere, alongside other “rebels” like former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba and former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande.
“Jagaban section of the breakaway from Afenifere under Ayo Fasanmi…they were attacking us when Fasoranti was the President (of Afenifere). When Fasanmi died, they chose another man to attack us with.
“All those who are saying Afenifere is divided are rebels, breakaways. And none of them has been able to challenge me.
“They broke away from us because Tinubu wanted to take over Afenifere after emerging Governor of Lagos. Because he was in government, he was able to distribute largesse to them. They went after him and abandoned us and we were all at peace.
“How far they have succeeded is what you are seeing. We (the real Afenifere) are still where we are. But with the scale falling off the eyes of our people, they are now seeing Tinubu for who he is.
“Tinubu, Osoba, Akande, are all traitors!!! They are all traitors of Yoruba-land!!!,” Adebanjo blares.

94-year-old Adebanjo recently stormed Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, alongside other Yoruba leaders, to campaign for the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Adebanjo maintains that Afenifere hasn’t lost its political relevance or clout; and that the group will continue to decide how majority of Yorubas vote in future elections.
