As the 2023 election campaigns start, Kaduna-based businessman and Chairman, Dialogue Group, Mahdi Shehu, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to tell the masses the source of his wealth and records of his health.
In an interview with ARISE TV’s The Morning Show, the outspoken Northern figure said it was not enough for Tinubu’s supporters to claim his records as Governor of Lagos state between 1999 and 2007 as the basis on which Nigerians should vote him as president.
He said Nigerians are interested in his educational and family background. He said Nigerians want to know the former Governor’s personality.
“What Nigerians are interested in before the achievements [as Governor of Lagos state] is the personality of Bola Tinubu. Questions are being raised about his geneology, his background, his source of wealth, his educational background” Shehu said.
“Who are his [Tinubu’s] classmates in primary and secondary schools? There are so many unanswered questions.
“Personality is very important. Track record is very important in politics. When you want to preside over a country you are saying that ‘This is my secret file and my open file. Please search’. I have searched the secret file of Bola Tinubu and we are asking ‘Bola Tinubu, please tell Nigerians what is the name of the primary school you attended? Who are those your classmates – dead or alive?”
He challenged Tinubu to mention the names of his teachers, headmaster, peers, or the town his schools where located.
“Since he claimed he was a good Mathematics student, who was your Mathematics teacher? Who was your principal? Who are your classmates? Endless questions?”
He also said Tinubu has displayed signs of ill-health which suggests he may not be physically fit for the nation’s top job.
“In the manner you present yourself in public was tremor at hand; tremor on the leg; instability of the whole body. Please tell us, are you mentally and physically healthy enough to preside over Nigeria because we are seeing some semblance of angina pectoris on you? We are seeing some semblance of palpitations on you. These are legitimate questions for electorates to ask,” he said.
He said Nigerians must continue to hold people like Tinubu accountable during the 2023 campaigns.
