Presidential candidate of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has taken to the skies, two weeks after nicking the flag-bearer ticket with a landslide victory.
A statement from his media aide, Tunde Rahman, details that the 70-year-old is bound for Paris, France “to hold some important meetings.”
Tinubu has been criticized for dithering on his choice of running mate, with political pundits surmising that the delay is indicative of how he intends to run Nigeria should he win the 2023 presidential contest.
“After the election, Tinubu embarked on a series of thank you and reconciliation visits to those who contested against him at the party’s primaries, including the seven aspirants who stepped down for him.
“He has travelled out of the country early Monday morning after meeting with President Buhari at the presidential villa,” the statement from the politician’s media office, reads.
After his primary election victory, Tinubu has had to deal with a plethora of negative press. The frail septuagenarian has been accused of corruption, concealing the true state of his health and of forging his school certificates, charges he has repeatedly denied in the past.
Tinubu’s speech is slurry these days; and tremors have assailed his hands and other parts of his frame as he speaks in public.
There are insinuations that Tinubu’s trip to France may not be unconnected to his failing health. Quest Times has however been unable to independently verify these claims at the time of filing this story.
Tinubu had named a placeholder running mate to beat INEC’s deadline.
