The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Akali Baba has presented cheques totaling N37.9 million to the families of 52 police officers who died while on active duty in the Niger state command between 2019 and 2022.
The IGP made the presentation in Minna on Wednesday as part of the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes.
The IGP, who was represented by the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Ogundele Ayodeji, stated that losing personnel in the line of duty is a painful experience.
He said: “We are therefore shocked by the recent unfortunate incident in which the Niger state police command lost some gallant officers in active service.”
He expressed gratitude the IGP for his efforts in assisting families of deceased personnel, saying the money would go a long way in assisting families.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Daniel Asar and Abubakar Moh’d appreciated the IGP, the CP, Niger State Police Command and particularly, the Insurance officer of the Command for their efforts towards getting the claims.
