Former Aviation Minister and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode has said that 22 senators are planning to dump the ruling party.
He said the 22 APC senators are threatening to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over alleged unfair treatment by the leadership of the party.
Fani-Kayode who took to his verified Facebook page said: “22 APC Senators are threatening to decamp to PDP because they have been denied the tickets to return to the Senate.
“This is serious and something must be done to prevent it.
“Many are concerned and we urge our able National Chairman and National Secretary to reach them. We cannot afford to lose them.”
Three Senators of the APC had on Tuesday resigned their membership of the ruling party.
The senators who defected to the opposition parties are: Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina North), Lawal Gumau (Bauchi South) and Francis Alimikhena (Edo North).
Worried by the gale of defection, the national leadership of the party summoned an emergency meeting with the APC’s senators where they were begged to remain in the party despite losing the primaries.
The APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, who spoke to reporters after the closed-door meeting, expressed worry over the gale of defections in the party.

He said: “In every election year, these kinds of subs steps give cause for people, stakeholders to sneeze. Nigeria is not an exception and the APC is not an exception.
“So, I don’t give a damn what is happening in other parties, I care about what is happening in our party.
“You know that it is not just in APC that this thing is happening. Because we are the ruling party, our problems are more prominent in the public glare.
“No responsible leader would not worry about losing one member, not to talk of two, three.
“At the moment, we are faced with the stark reality of their problems but we are committed with my colleagues in the National Working Committee to face the problems squarely and solve them by the grace of God.”
