The State High Court in Owutu Edda, Afikpo South LGA, Ebonyi State, has been set ablaze by suspected political thugs.
The incident occurred 24 hours after the state’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections concluded.
The Registrar of the court, Mrs Oluchi Uduma, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying that the hoodlums stormed the court in the early hours of Tuesday, chanting war songs and setting fire to the building.

Oluchi explained that the hoodlums had earlier, sometimes ago, attempted to burn down the state High Court, but were prevented by security agencies.
She said that the court building and other valuable properties as well as documents were totally burnt. Adding that the youths of Owutu Edda community alongside security operatives were mobilized but were unable to apprehend any of them.
The setting ablaze of the said state High Court was said to be allegedly perpetrated by youths who are seriously aggrieved on the conduct of the governorship and House of Assembly elections that took place at the area.
The Chairman of Afikpo South Local Government Area, Mr. Chima Ekuma Nkama, who also confirmed the incident, said that the court was burnt beyond repair.
According to him: “It is very unfortunate that the hoodlums launched an attack on the High Court at Owutu Edda community.
“When we went there, the whole place was on fire. We have reported the matter, even the governor, the commissioner of police are all aware.
“We are currently doing our best to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended,” he stated.
