Police rescue kidnapped 21 children in Zamfara

The Police authority in Zamfara State has confirmed the rescue of 21 school children earlier kidnapped at Kucheri Village, along Gusau -Funtua Road.
 
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Zamfara State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, revealed this to newsmen at the Command headquarters in Gusau on the first day of the year 2022.
 
According to the police spokesperson, the school children were on transit to Dandume in Katsina state for Islamiyya school before they were kidnapped by the terrorists.
 
Mohammed who addressed newsmen on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkana said, “on the 31st of December, 2021 at about 11pm, bandits in their large number blocked the federal higher at Kucheri village in Tsafe Local Government Area of the State were they abducted unspecified number of commuters in five different vehicles.
 
According to him, police tactical operatives in conjunction with the military promptly responded to the distress call, moved to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a serious gun battle which led to the rescue of the children.
 
He noted that the children were from Rini village in Bakura local government area of the state on transit in an 18-seater bus, along with their teacher, Malam Lauwali Ibrahim who is still in the custody of the bandits.

The police authority further urged people in the state to avoid traveling in the night as bandits take advantage to operate in the late hours.
