The Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has likened Peter Obi’s Labour Party to Andrews Liver Salt–a laxative medication.
Andrews Liver Salts is a brand of Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid and Magnesium Sulphate. Andrews acts as an antacid and laxative to relieve one of heartburn, indigestion and constipation symptoms. It’s been commonly used in Nigeria for many decades to relieve stomach problems.
Speaking at the Chatham House, a UK policy think-tank recently, Kwankwaso said the Labour Party is the creation of the media, and its supposed gains would soon fizzle out.
“If you have a party which is based on ethnicity and religion…that’s the difference between Labour and our party which is a national party. I was one of those who initially wanted to work with Labour Party, but unfortunately at that time, Labour Party was under some serious media hype.
“Our party (NNPP) is the only growing party in Nigeria today. We have seen the maximum any party, especially Labour, which is like Andrews Liver Salt, which came like pruuuuu, now it’s coming down. That’s the reality. Our party is the only party that is now getting support from across board,” Kwankwaso boasted.
He added that; “On Labour Party, I was initially interested in working with them, but at that time, they were at peak of the media hype and we couldn’t reach a compromise. Our party (NNPP) is a national party, and we’re commanding the support of the masses.”
The four frontrunners as Nigeria prepares to elect a President next month are Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
18 presidential candidates have been criss-crossing the country in a last ditch attempt to solicit votes and support, in a bid to replace President Muhammadu Buhari, whose constitutionally permissible two-terms of eight years in office, elapses on May 29, 2023.
