A former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has been selected as acting Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, following the resignation of Senator Walid Jibrin, on Thursday morning.
Senator Jibrin said his decision to step down paving the way for another BOT chair is to ensure victory for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 election.
Senator Wabara’s selection as PDP BoT chairman comes amid calls that the party’s leadership structure be reshuffled to balance the existing lopsidedness in favour of the North.
Senator Jibrin hails from Nasarawa State.
There have also been calls for the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, who hails from Benue state, to resign.
We have earlier reported how Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, has decried the lopsidedness the party’s zoning arrangements.
Mr Wike leads many southern leaders in the party demanding that members from that region be reflected in the party’s hierarchy ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) may meet soon to ratify the decision for change in BoT leadership.
