Aarhus Fremad, a second-division Danish football club, has been snapped up by Nigerian tech mogul Shola Akinlade.
The acquisition, in which Akinlade has taken a 55% stake, was confirmed by the club on Facebook.
38-year-old Akinlade is the CEO of Paystack, and Aarhus Fremad becomes his second football club, following the founding of Sporting Lagos football club in Nigeria, which is set to become Aarhus Fremad’s sister club.
Despite the change in ownership, little is set to change at the club, according to Lars Kruse, Aarhus Fremad’s director.
Speaking to Aarhus Stiftstidende, Kruse said, “The plan is to continue with the setup we have. There are of course some investments that are right on the nose – some fitness equipment, GPS trackers on players, and so on.”
Aarhus Fremad currently leads the second division and is a strong candidate for promotion to the country’s second-tier league (Danish First Division).
