Over 100 killed in Zamfara attack

At least 100 people have been reportedly killed in Zamfara following an attack by bandits

The attacks happened in nine villages located in Anka and Bukkuyum local government areas of the state.

According to eyewitnesses, armed men invaded nine villages on Tuesday evening.

The men, who were many, kept shooting indiscriminately and setting houses on fire.

The attack continued till Thursday morning without any military or police intervention.

“They killed more than 100 people,” Aliyu Anka, a resident told AP, “In one village, they killed people from 20 years and above; Some have been buried, some were burnt and we are still looking for bodies.”

Asides the 100 reported dead, so many others have been missing since the attacks.

This is one of the deadliest attacks the country has experienced in recent times.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack..

The perpetrators are believed to be gang members.

Confirming the attacks, the Zamfara State Commissioner of information, Ibrahim Dosara, said authorities are awaiting more details on the attacks.

The military has deployed an aircraft to comb the surrounding areas.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only attack Zamfara has witnessed this week. 

This Tuesday, about 97 people were rescued by the police; they’d been kidnapped.

Both the military and Federal Government are yet to issue an official statement.
