Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom (PDP), has denied media reports that he has concluded plans to mobilize support for the presidential aspiration of Bola Tinubu (APC).
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur, Ortom dismissed rumours that he and other G5 Governors had resolved to support Tinubu as mere speculations and urged people not to listen to rumours.
Rumour has it that while in London, Governor Ortom met with Tinubu and pledged to mobilize Benue votes for him when he returned.
Others went so far as to assert that the “Jagaban” of the group, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, had told the G-5 Governors to support the APC presidential candidate.
Mr Ikyur, on the other hand, responded quickly, saying, “No, it’s not true. That is not correct.” He acknowledged that the governor had traveled to London and is expected to return on Friday, but he denied meeting with Tinubu.
“They are strategizing and have not made any such pronouncement. If they have to make any pronouncements, they would let the world know.
“They are old enough and they are experienced enough to do that. So we should not be relying on speculations and rumours,” he said.
