Afrobeats singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has replied criticism from Nigerians who have attacked him over his silence on electoral issues in the country.
Against the backdrop of election controversies in Nigeria, Burna Boy used his Instagram story to urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the election transparently and resist any attempt to manipulate the results.
Despite his efforts to speak out, Burna Boy’s post did not win him back the favour of Nigerians who dragged him for only speaking out about societal ills when it pleases him.
Many noted how the singer talks about societal issues in his music, but has never been vocal in societal issues.
In response, Burna Boy reiterated that he would not partake in the election process as he is not seeking validation from Nigerians. He affirmed that all the good deeds he has done for his country come from his heart, pocket, time, and emotions.
He also stated that he has never made money from any Nigerian government, nor has he taken any house, land, or money from any governor.
He said, “I’ve never made money from any Nigerian government and I never took any house, land or money from any governor. I’ve never been appointed into any public office and I never intended to be.
“All the good I do for my country comes from my heart, pockets, time and emotions. It’s not for social media validation and it’s definitely not because I owe anybody. I say I nor vote. Make everybody getat”.
