Lionel Scaloni has been awarded The Best FIFA Men’s Coach award for 2022.
His leadership led Argentina to victory at the 2021 Copa America, ending a 28-year dry spell in the tournament.
Scaloni continued to lead his team to success, as they won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, recovering from a shocking opening defeat to Saudi Arabia to make their way to the final and beat France on penalties.
Upon accepting the award in Paris, Scaloni expressed his gratitude to his squad and remarked that “making your people and your country happy” is the most rewarding thing. He also revealed that he has recently signed a contract extension with Argentina, which will keep him in the role until the 2026 World Cup.
Despite a rough start to their World Cup campaign, Scaloni rallied his team to a remarkable recovery, defeating formidable opponents such as Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia, and ultimately France in the knockout stages.
