Newcastle United have been knocked out of the FA Cup after they were beaten 1-0 by Cambridge United at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
Eddie Howe put out a strong side, which included the debut of new signing Kieran Trippier, but Newcastle struggled to find a way through the League One side’s defence.
Cambridge United striker Joe Ironside scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute after Newcastle ‘keeper Martin Dubravka failed to keep hold of a ball that was put into the box.

Both sides also had goals disallowed, with Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy and Cambridge’s Jack Lankester having their efforts ruled out for offside.
Cambridge goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov came to his side’s rescue on many occasions during the match, especially in the latter stages.
Newcastle’s next game is a crucial Premier League match at home against Watford on January 15, with both teams in the relegation battle.
