The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has tackled the Canadian government and Twitter, over their handling of the truckers protest against COVID-19 restrictions in Canada.

During EndSARS protest, the Canadian government had condemned the actions taken by the Nigerian government to quell it.

In a tweet, the country had said “Canada is deeply concerned about the excessive use of force during the ongoing protests in Nigeria. Those responsible for Human Rights violations and abuse must be held accountable.”

Lai Mohammed is now accusing the Canadian government of double standard given how it managed the truckers’ protest

In his own words, “the Canadian protesters, who have blockaded roads and resorted to inconveniencing others, have been branded as terrorists or insurrectionists and subjected to a number of clampdowns by government and private organisations.”

GoFundMe on the other hand also shut down the truckers’ campaign after they raised over $10 million while Twitter suspended the truckers account.

The government also froze the bank account of the truckers’ through which funds were donated.

The Canadian Government is yet to respond.
