The Kwara State Government has announced the reopening of the Oyun Baptist High School Ijagbo four months after it was shut down following a clash over the protracted hijab crisis in the school.

In a statement signed by Mrs Mary Kemi Adeosun, Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, the Government directed all teachers and students to return to their classrooms on June 3.

The statement also said the resumption will take effect while “the government white paper committee continues the efforts to address pending issues related to the recent disturbance in the public school.”

The government also restated its position that any Muslim schoolgirl “who desires to wear the hijab is allowed to do so in all public schools, including in Oyun Baptist High School Ijagbo, which is owned by the State Government and run with public resources.”
