It’s no longer news that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi, are sworn enemies.
Both men do not see eye-to-eye.
Former Transportation Minister Amaechi, has just labelled Wike a drunkard who spends N50 million on alcohol every week.
What brought about this latest installment of name calling between both men?
We can explain…
It was Wike who drew first blood
Governor Wike never misses an opportunity to insult Amaechi or to pile on him in public.
While addressing a campaign rally in Rivers recently, Wike boasted of his 40-year-old bottle of Whiskey, and how he sipped same as Atiku and his supporters protested the results of the presidential election in Abuja.
Atiku and his PDP supporters have become Students’ Union, Wike mocked as the crowd erupted with laughter.
“What is in us is greater than what is in them. As they were protesting, I just sat down and took one 40 years Whiskey. And then I called some of my friends, put on the TV and said ‘watch’. They have become Labour Union, they have become Students’ Union,” the governor scoffed.
In a separate event, Wike yabbed Amaechi for promising the Igbo community what he couldn’t deliver as governor.
He also alleged that Amaechi worked for PDP Presidential candidate in the Feb 25 election, Atiku Abubakar, instead of his party’s candidate Bola Tinubu.
What did Amaechi say?
Well, Amaechi has now responded to Wike’s latest diatribe by calling the Rivers Governor a shameless drunkard.
Speaking during his campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, Amaechi said, “The person Wike buys alcohol from, said Wike spends 50 million Naira every week on alcohol.
“The primary schools we built is 112 million Naira, it means that in two weeks, Wike has drunk one primary school.
“When Wike talks, it is alcohol that is talking. And he’s so shameless about it. Wike told the whole world on live TV that he was drinking a very expensive 40-year-old whiskey, in the morning.
“We are asking INEC to be neutral. The people have rejected Wike and his government. Every street I went to, people were jumping on top of me shouting. They were remembering that I built 5 flyovers, I did not dance. We employed 400 new doctors, bought cars for 600 doctors, bought ambulances for all the health centres.
“We went round primary schools to see what’s going on, and discovered there were no teachers, so we hired 13,200 teachers. By the time I left as governor, there was a contractor in every school to maintain the school. Where are the schools that Wike built?” Amaechi queried.
Who won this round?
