As the war between Russia and Ukraine hits harder, it’s gradually affecting the supply and causing the scarcity of wheat worldwide, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called Favoured Farmers Community Empowerment Trust (FFACET) has commenced a dry season Wheat farm in Doma Local Government Area of Nasawara state to augment the vacuum.
This is targeted at bridging the gap of wheat in the local and International markets following the soaring prices and scarcity of the products for Nestle companies.
Recalled that figures from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) shows that in 2020, Russia accounted for about 11 per cent global wheat production and 19 per cent of global wheat exports, making it the world’s largest wheat exporter that year.
Speaking to our Correspondent, The Chairman of FFACET Grains Project, Monitoring, Supervision and Implementation Committee, Mr. Peters Madu said ” we have identified this location for dry season wheat farming which we intend to cultivate across the country.
“The project is a 50,000 hectares project but we’re looking at 10 hectares for the community and we are capturing 3000 farmers as a way of empowerment by providing the seedlings, land clearing for them.
The Chairman explained that the wheat crop is timebond so they are kick-starting immediately to Meetup the harvest period.
He stressed when these 50,000 hectares are cultivated across the country the products will reduce the scarcity already created by the Russia-Ukraine war.
