- Some ministers still on vacation, uncertainty when Council meeting would resume in new year
The weekly Federal Executive Council meeting that holds every Wednesday at the Presidential Villa would not be holding today January 12, 2022, Quest Times reports.
At least three ministers who pleaded anonymity confirmed to Quest Times that President Muhammadu Buhari approved a recommendation from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Boss Mustapha to cancel today’s meeting.
Mustapha had proposed that the resumption of the weekly FEC meeting in the new year be delayed because a number of ministers had taken the opportunity of the end of the year and new year festivities to take their annual vacations and won’t return until next week.
Recall that at the end of last year FEC held two meetings in the week leading to Christmas. One meeting was on the regular Wednesday December 22, 2021 and then a special meeting on the following Thursday December 23, 2021.
Since then FEC has not held for two weeks and today’s cancellation would be the third straight week FEC would not be meeting. There is no confirmation as yet whether the FEC will resume next week, but one of the Council members said the President is not likely to tolerate any further delay of the resumption of the weekly cabinet meeting.
Said the source who is among those who conformed the cancellation to this newspaper “the President’s body language is not to overstretch the vacation time especially as he has several targets set for 2022 that he insists must be met.”
