The Media Adviser to Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Paul Ibe, has debunked reports trending on social media that his principal is sick and has been flown to London for treatment.
Speaking Exclusively over the phone with Quest Times on Sunday night, he said: “if you have read the report you will see probably that I have responded to SaharaReporters on Twitter over what was a very stupid and hopeless fake news.
“Journalism has gone to the dogs and there are some things that we shouldn’t be spreading.
“Are there no hospitals where the presidential candidate is? So it’s just fake news and one has to be more diligent.”
The Media Adviser gave an example by saying: “You are in Abuja and someone says you have been flown to a hospital in Lagos and you’re still in Abuja, you actually have an appointment in Lagos for Tuesday and Wednesday and will be going tomorrow. Is that not a lie if you haven’t left Abuja?
He added that: “Atiku has been invited by the British Government and he will be going to UK tomorrow to have critical meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that Atiku is ill and has been flown to London, United Kingdom, for treatment.
According to the report, Atiku was flown from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the UK.
The report further stated that “Atiku is not feeling fine; he is in the hospital receiving treatment.
“That’s why he is not back in Nigeria for the presidential campaign. He was in Dubai but has now left Dubai for London for treatment. He has been flown to the UK for treatment. That is why he is still abroad.”
The Report added that “SaharaReporters could not confirm the nature of Atiku’s ailment.”
