A 2019 former presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has emerged the running mate to Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Ex-Anambra Governor Obi is the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections.

Senator Baba-Ahmed is the Proprietor of Baze University, Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University Kano.
Baba-Ahmed, who had indicated interest in running for the office of Governor of Kaduna State under the PDP, chickened out of the race days before the governorship primary of the party.
The unveiling of the vice presidential candidate was initially slated for Thursday, July 7, to be done by the LP’s presidential candidate at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
However, the National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure said that the ceremony could not go ahead as planned because the presidential candidate, who had traveled to Maiduguri and was expected back in Abuja Thursday afternoon, had his flight cancelled.
Abure announced that the unveiling of Obi’s running mate has been rescheduled for Friday, July 8 at the party’s headquarters, Abuja.
The nomination of Baba-Ahmed followed the withdrawal of the placeholder, Doyin Okupe.
Okupe had on Thursday, announced the withdrawal on his official Twitter handle.
“This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC. A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of the party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP,” he wrote.
