MTN-Nigeria management has responded to social media posts attributed to the company, which suggest that the company intends to suspend network operations during the 2023 general elections, which begin on Saturday.
Mr. Fusho Aina, Senior Manager in Charge of External Relations, MTN- Nigeria, said in a statement sent on Thursday exclusively to The Quest Times that it had no such intentions.
Aina said “We don’t make changes to our network during critical times to minimize the chances of an outage.
“Keeping the network as it is, is a common practice in telecoms referred to as a Network Freeze.”
Earlier, the Quest Times got a message regarding network changes instructions to customers with the inscription below:
“Dear esteemed customers please be informed of the planned network freeze for the period of the 2023 National Elections to enable proper management of customers’ expectations.
“During the freeze, all activity that will impact the network has been put on hold as the freeze period is as below;
“Presidential and National Legislative Elections which is six days starting from February 24th, 2023 to end 1st March, 2023
“Gubernatorial and State Assemblies Elections which is also six days starting from March 10th, 2023 to end on March 15th, 2023 respectively”.
The statement added “please note that the start and the end dates are inclusive for the freeze periods. Activities will return to normal after the periods above.”
