Support for the detained former Deputy Senate President and current Enugu State Senator at the National Assembly, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu is rising as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has also sent a team of politicians and friends to stay in touch with him and the case in the UK.
Quest Times learnt that before now, senior members of the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives had resolved to support Ekweremadu, including the Senate President and other Pro-Buhari senators.
Some of them, especially Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, Senate Committee Chairman on foreign affairs, have been sighted in the London Court during hearing.
An informed source disclosed that Atiku has also been sending politicians and friends to show solidarity with Ekweremadu, with a specific mandate to ensure he gets all the help he needs in the case.
Sources close to the President also hinted that a more aggressive push is now emerging from the Federal Government, with the Quest Times exclusive report last week that a top UK lawyer and Queen’s Counsel had been retained for Ekweremadu by the Nigerian Government.

It is not yet clear whether the lawyer would be making a spirited application to grant bail to the embattled federal legislator, as the main trial is not expected to resume until next year.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice are facing charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. The charge is based on the Modern Slavery Act.
Pending the main trial now set for next year, a pre-trial is scheduled for October 31 in which the ex-Deputy Senate President, his wife, and Obeta would appear in court.
