The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has warned gunmen against hiding behind the group’s name to perpetrate violence in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.
Speaking in Enugu on behalf of IPOB, one of its leaders Tochukwu Malachy Obi, described the group under the guidance of Nnamdi Kanu, as a peaceful group concerned with the liberation of Biafrans.
In the statement, he further accused the security operatives of looking to score cheap political points by framing random criminals as IPOB members.

He said, “IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a peaceful group and will continue to warn the Ekpa-led autopilot to stop committing evil in Biafra land because he and his group will face justice on the appointed day.
“IPOB, under our leader, had stopped the weekly sit-at-home, but the devilish autopilot group still goes ahead to criminally and violently enforce it, looting and maiming innocent Biafrans. This must stop. IPOB leaders approve sit-at-home only on a day our leader is to appear in court. And it has been officially said time and time by our spokesman, Emma Powerful. Any contrary information should be ignored.
“The Nigerian security operatives should stop using the name of IPOB to score cheap political gains. It is not working again, the world knows who the criminals and terrorists are. They should go for them. IPOB is not a criminal group but a peaceful, non-violent group.
“Nigerian security operatives should stop framing IPOB members, as they are innocent. They are not unknown gunmen. Nigerian soldiers and DSS know the criminals and should go for them, not non-violent IPOB members”, he said.
