Nigerians have taken to social media to express their displeasure, following the confirmation of former President Goodluck Jonathan as a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jonathan’s APC membership was confirmed on Thursday, May 12, 2022, by the Chairman of APC in Ogbia ward 13, Mr Igori Freeman in an exclusive chat with Daily Trust, giving credence to rumours of his ambition to run for the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the ruling party.

In reaction to the news, some displeased Nigerians took to their Twitter handles to express their shock and disappointment at the news of Jonathan’s membership of the APC.

Here are some reactions from Twitter:

@folashademarsh1 Wow. Goodluck Jonathan still has interest in becoming our president one more time through the APC party. No wonder he was rubbing shoulders with Buhari earlier this year. So he has gone to obtain a form at Otueke? May the best man win.

@Aguiyi_II I’m not saying Goodluck Jonathan is not a good man, but joining the same party that vilified you for years and thrown the entire country into suffering is unethical. Say what you like, but you know it doesn’t look nor sound right. But this is Nigeria, anything goes.

@ogundamisi @GEJonathan don’t fall our hand. Stay with @OfficialPDPNig as a silent partner. You can’t win the APC Presidential ticket, you can’t win a General election. Just stay on the international scene. Don’t let greedy folks push you.

One reason @GEJonathan might be trying to contest under APC will be to give back to those that betrayed Him in 2015.

If he wins, watch out for the payback.

Interesting times in our polity.

@DOFFISHAL Goodluck Jonathan joining the APC might not be a bad thing after all. If the PDP fails to give us Peter Obi, we will switch to APC and vote GEJ

@azariah_praise I’d rather vote Buhari again instead of Goodluck Jonathan, accepting such offer shows how clueless he is, and he obviously still doesn’t have a mind of his own yet.

@henryshield Dear Dr. @GEJonathan, it is wrong to keep your followers, fans and admirers in the dark as to the rumors going round that you’ve joined the APC. No one who loves you should be in the dark as to where you stand politically at any given time. This is highly insensitive sir.

Till this moment, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has not deemed it fit to address the fears and apprehensions of his followers about his alleged joining the APC.

This is totally wrong of a leader

@zdnfam Some of us don know since 2013 say Goodluck Jonathan is as clueless as anything, some of you people that disagreed with us then, I’m happy that you guys have finally agreed that we were right then and we are still right.
