The recent raid by the State Security Services (SSS), Nigeria’s secret police, on the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos has raised more questions in the public domain about whether prison officials sneaked in a phone to an inmate who has threatened Nigerians, including the Vice President’s daughter.
“How did an inmate at Kirikiri Maximum Prison get access to a phone with which he allegedly threatened innocent Nigerians, including the daughter of the sitting Vice President?” a source asked QUEST TIMES.
According to prison sources, there is an ongoing dispute between Kirikiri authorities and law enforcement agents following news that a facility inmate is threatening the life of Nigerians including some prominent citizens.
The DSS operatives arrived at the Apapa penitentiary late Sunday afternoon, March 12.
The DSS agents were seen patrolling the premises both inside and outside in search of an individual who issued a “serious threat” to one of the Vice President’s daughters and other Nigerians.
The agents were reported to have tracked the phone number being used to threaten Nigerians to the prison with the implications that the person who issued the threat was an inmate.
Said a source: “The criminal who used a mobile phone that the secret service tracked as the one making threats is inside the prison location.”
Investigations are still ongoing as to how an inmate got access to a phone, at the time of filing this report.
