A Federal High Court in Bayelsa has ruled that ex-Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan, can contest for the nation’s Presidency ahead of the 2023 general elections.
There have been postulations and opinions in certain quarters that 64-year-old Jonathan, who oversaw the country’s affairs from 2010 to 2015 on the platform of the PDP, is ineligible to run for President again based on constitutional restrictions.
However, on Friday, May 27, 2022, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen gave the former president the all clear to hurl his hat into the presidential ring, just hours before the governing APC settles for a presidential candidate in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.

The Judge also held that Jonathan’s right to vie for the office of President for a second time of asking, cannot be impeded retroactively.
Rumours have been rife that Jonathan could be allowed to vie for the APC presidential ticket on Saturday, May 28.
Jonathan has reportedly been scheming behind the scenes and consulting members of a powerful cabal within the presidency for the APC presidential ticket.
