A Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, has ordered the Federal Government of Nigeria to “restore Nnamdi Kanu to status quo,” before he was arrested and extradited to Nigeria on June 19, 2021.
Justice Evelyn Anyadike also ordered the federal government to pay N500 million in damages to Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The court also issued an order restraining the Attorney General Abubakar Malami from prosecuting Kanu consequent upon his extraordinary rendition.
Kanu was arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria. He had been on the run after he jumped bail in 2017.
