Former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu emerged the standard-bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the just-concluded presidential primary of the party.
Quest Times reports that the APC presidential candidate defeated the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, and Senate President Ahmad Lawan, among 10 other aspirants to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Despite being a household name in the annals of Nigeria’s politics, so many people may probably not know some of these interesting facts Quest Times gathered about the APC flag-bearer.
Bola Tinubu was reportedly born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos, Nigeria. Though there have been controversies in recent times on his date of birth, as unpopular opinion suggests the APC flag-bearer looks older than his political age (70).
He attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya Lagos and Children’s Home School in Ibadan. Tinubu then went to the United States in 1975 where he studied first at Richard J. Daley College in Chicago, Illinois, and then at Chicago State University.
The 70-year-old is a degree holder in Accounting from Chicago State University.
For his academic prowess, he was awarded the prestigious Sumna cum laude (a latin phrase meaning “with highest honour.”) for scoring 3.54 out of possible 4.0 GP.
With his successful academic profile, young Tinubu contested and won his first political election as President of the Accounting Society of the institution in his final year at the University.
He holds the titles of Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban of the Borgu Kingdom in Niger State, Nigeria. Jagaban literally means ‘leader of warriors’. The title was bestowed on him by the late Emir of Borgu, Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III on February 26, 2006.
He is blessed with three children: Oluwaseyi Tinubu, Abibat Tinubu and Folashade Tinubu (Iyaloja General).
