The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to its members to remain calm stating that it is already appealing the National Industrial Court of Nigeria’s (NICN) ruling ordering the union to end its 7-month strike and return to work.
The Quest Times reports that the NICN in a ruling on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, delivered a ruling on the interlocutory injunction filed by the federal government Wednesday, Justice Polycap Hamman ordered ASUU to call off the strike pending the determination of the suit.
ASUU made the appeal in a statement released on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, titled “NIC Back to Work Order on ASUU: Be Calm.”.
According to the statement, ASUU’s counsel, human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN) is already filing an appeal on behalf of the union.
“Our Comrade President, Comrade Victor Osodeke, has urged members of our Great Union to remain calm as there is no cause for alarm on the back-to-work order delivered earlier today.
“Our lawyer is filing an appeal and stay of execution of the judgment. Members should remain resolute and strong. A people united can never be defeated. Solidarity without compromise.”
