Singer and entertainer, Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known by his stage name, D’banj, has broken his silence, 24 hours after he regained his freedom from the custody of the anti-graft Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
Months after evading arrest and interrogation, and shunning invitations from the agency, D’banj turned himself in at the ICPC office in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja on Tuesday, December 6, where he was grilled on fraud related charges.
He regained his freedom on Friday, with his lawyer vehemently maintaining that his client is innocent of the allegations.
D’banj had been linked to fraudulent practices as it pertains to the N-Power project–a social investment and youth empowerment scheme piloted by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.
“Global thank you to the world. I was invited on an ongoing investigation in ICPC. I have assisted the commission with all I know and I am confident in their capacity to unravel the truth,” D’banj writes on his Instagram page.
“I have no business with fraud, all I do is chop life. I was released on self-recognition because nothing was seen or found on me. God bless you all my people,” he added.
A songwriter, singer, rapper and television personality, energetic D’banj has been active in the vibrant Nigerian music scene since 2004.
He sings afrobeats, hip hop, pop, and R&B.
D’banj had previously been accused of rape in 2020 by Seyitan Babatayo, who alleged that the singer forcefully had sex with her in December 2018. He had strenuously denied the allegations.
