COVID-19 battered Senegal were spared their blushes as they opened their AFCON tournament with a last-minute win, thanks to a Sadio Mane 97th-minute penalty.
The Teranga Lions were dealt an early AFCON blow, missing 11 of its 28-man squad through COVID-19, with star players Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly ruled out.
The Chelsea shot-stopper tested positive for COVID, as did Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and striker Famara Dhiédiou. On Sunday, Senegal had mentioned these three possible withdrawals. It seems that the list has grown since then.

The trio of Mendy, Koulibaly and Dhiediou were ruled out on Sunday, but according to reports, the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the Senegal camp has since swelled.
Despite the big names missing out for Senegal, they were still favourites for the tie, going on to control proceedings with 61% of the possession.
Despite having less of the ball, underdogs Zimbabwe tested the Senegalese side taking them deep into extra time, only to have their hearts broken courtesy of a Kelvin Madzongwe handball in the 4th minute of extra time.
Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane stepped up and delived in the 6th minute of extra-time to send Senegal top of Group B.
