The release of the 28-man Super Eagles list for the 2021 AFCON scheduled to take place next month in Cameroon has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians.

The list which comprised of regulars such as captain Ahmed Musa, Leon Balogun, raised eyebrows with the inclusion of U-17 World Cup-winning captain Kelechi Nwakali and recently returned Odion Ighalo.

Following the release of the list, some Nigerians took to Twitter to express concerns about the inclusion of some players, while others were excited at the inclusion of others.

Other called for support for the team, irrespective of who made the list.

Here are some reactions concerning the Super Eagles list for the 2021 AFCON

@MONSIEURBLAC: That Super Eagles final list though. Why do we need 4 goalkeepers? Shehu Abdullahi over Ebuehi? Musa and Ighalo over Dessers? Where did Nwakali come from?

Football journalist Fisayo Dairo has some interstimg comments on the inclusion of Kelechi Nwakali

@FisayoDairo: Kelechi Nwakali is truly going to his first senior AFCON in Cameroon. What a story! Handed U23 place without playing any meaningful football in a year. Handed Super Eagles slot on the premise of U17 exploits six years ago. Last chance saloon for the reincarnated Rabiu Ibrahim.

@Kaizer747: Why is no one questioning Alex Iwobi’s inclusion in the Super Eagles squad? He’s been sh*t for 3 years. The only reason he made the list is his Uncle’s legendary status. We need to be serious.

@jarretted_ Why is Musa in the Afcon squad? Respect to all he’s done for the super eagles but we just lost a spot for a better choice player atm. #AFCON #afcon2022

@silasdung: The Super Eagles team list any time it is release is met with a lot to talk about the 28 man list has got many talk for or against some players and you begin wonder what exactly do we as a Nigerians want. Support the team to succeed simple it’s the best we can put forward for now

@Ifeanyi_Nwak Delighted to see Olisah Ndah being called up by the Super Eagles for the nation’s cup in January. Feels good seeing a young lad that started from the Nigerian league progressing this well in his career. Hardwork and consistency pays. A decent club in Europe in 2 years I can bet

@IykeTweets_: Ighalo and Musa have no reason to be in that super eagles AFCON list. They will end up depriving players like Dennis and Awoniyi the opportunities to make a statement.

@MrNomso: Emmanuel Dennis makes Super Eagles final list for AFCON. You have done well Eguavoen.

This user expressed concern on the lack of NPFL stars in the AFCON list

@KingOdy: My thoughts on the Super Eagles list for #Afcon Only one NPFL player. Olisa Nda makes the list because he moved to the PSL. The coaches needs to look more inwards

@kj_kingjames: The super eagles list for AFCON is okay. No be every body go dey the list.
