Candidate of the Peoples Democratic, PDP, Ademola Adeleke, popularly known as the ‘dancing senator’ has been declared the winner of the Osun governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Adeleke won in 17 of the 30 local government areas in the State.
The Returning Officer of the Ekiti Governorship Election, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe who is also the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, announced the results on Sunday morning at the INEC office in Osogbo, Osun capital city.

The senator polled a total of 403, 371 votes to defeat the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of All Progressive Congress (APC) who bagged 375, 027 to emerge 2nd while Agbaje Claret of Action Democratic Party (ADP), came a distant third with 10, 104 votes.
Interestingly, Adeleke also defeated the seating governor in the Government House, Osogbo Polling unit in Olorunda Local Government Area.
Quest Times understands this is the second time both candidates (Adeleke and Oyetola) will be facing each other at the ballot.
In 2018, Adeleke scored 254,698 votes to defeat his closest rival, Oyetola who scored 254,345.
However, the margin of victory between the duo – 354 votes – is far lower than the number of voided ballots, put above 3000, according to INEC.
INEC’s election guideline made pursuant to Section 153 of the Electoral Act stipulates a rerun if the margin of victory in an election is lower than cancelled votes.
Following this, a rerun was held in areas where elections were cancelled. The rerun election was held at three polling units in Orolu, two polling units in Ife South, one polling unit in Ife North local governments, and one polling unit in Osogbo. All the results tickled in were in favour of the APC candidate who was later affirmed the winner of the gubernatorial election by the Supreme court in July 2019.
