Bet you didn’t know these 7 facts about Valentine’s Day.

The story of Valentine is one with a bittersweet ending; sometimes you ask yourself if there is a need for this fantasy surrounding it.

Whoever you are spending this season with, Quest Times has you covered for Valentine Gift options for him or her.

While you are at it, here are some bet you didn’t know facts about Valentine’s Day.

  1. St VALENTINE ISN’T JUST ONE PERSON

That is right, we already know there was a certain St Valentine associated with the day, but the real question is which of them?

According to History.com, there are at least two men named Valentine that could’ve inspired the holiday, including one Valentine who was a priest in third-century Rome. As the story goes, this Valentine defied Emperor Claudius II’s ban on marriage (he thought it distracted young soldiers), illegally marrying couples in the spirit of love until he was caught and sentenced to death.

Another legend suggests that Valentine was killed for attempting to help Christians escape prison in Rome and that he actually sent the first “valentine” message himself while imprisoned, writing a letter signed “From your Valentine.”

  2. VALENTINE’S DAY IS OVER 700 YEARS IN CELEBRATION

In the 13th Century, Valentine’s Day became an official day attached to love. Roman Pope Gelasius officially declared the date of February 14 “St. Valentine’s Day.”

It wasn’t until the Middle Ages, though, that the holiday became associated with love and romance, a tradition that first started from the common belief in France and England that birds started their mating season on February 14.

  3. TEACHERS RECEIVE MOST VALENTINE DAY CARD THEN CHILDREN

Well, who would have thought teachers get as much love?

According to goodhousekeeping about 145 million Valentine cards are shared annually in America alone, and a majority of those go to teachers, children, mothers and wives!

  4. $5.8BN WAS SPENT ON JEWELRY ALONE IN 2020

What is now the buzz around too many flowers on Valentine’s Day as a gift?

About $5.8bn was spent on jewelry gifts in 2020 according to the National Retail Federation and that makes it the most prized gift for the occasion.

Next to it was an evening night out with over four billion dollars, followed by clothing, candy and flowers.

  5. ABOUT 6 MILLION COUPLES GET ENGAGED ON VALENTINE’S DAY

You never knew this about Valentine’s Day, right?

Val’s Day has been rated as the best time to propose across a calendar year and about six million couples have tested it okay, survey reveals.

There is more; according to the results of this survey, Valentine’s Day was voted the best day of the year to propose than any other day — and of those people who voted, 40 percent were men!

  6. KIDS ARE THE REAL VALENTINE DAY MVPs

Valentine’s Day has typically been associated with romantic love and partnership. Interestingly enough, according to a Today show survey that polled 1,500 people, only 59% of spouses planned on giving their partners a gift while 85% of parents planned to give their children something on February 14.

  7. LOVEBIRDS ARE NOT HUMANS, THEY’RE BIRDS!

While the term “lovebirds” has become a popular figure of speech, it’s also the common name for the Agapornis bird.

This bird is a type of parrot that is native to the continent of Africa and can be found throughout the eastern and southern regions.

The animals typically travel in pairs, which is why many couples are referred to as lovebirds.
