Kenyan authorities have detained six teachers from a primary school in the country’s western region over a video that went viral showing students imitating sexual acts while the teachers watched.
According to reports, the teachers in Nyamache, Kisii country, were arrested after education ministry officials saw the video and filed a complaint.
In the video, adults who appear to be teachers can be heard conversing and laughing aloud as someone records four boys in school uniforms.
According to a police investigation, the video “exposing the children in an obscene act” looked to have originated at the school.
According to the statement, the six arrested were collaborating with investigations and will face appropriate penalties.
The video sparked an uproar on social media, with many calling for action.
“What they did can only be termed as barbarous, bestial, and insane. It has no justification whatsoever! Let them face the full force of the law,” a Kenyan on Twitter said.
“I support the arrest of the six teachers… There is no justification [for] what they did,” another said.
