The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Wednesday, accused the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, of undermining the constitution over proposed deductions on the $418 million from the Paris Club refund.
Malami had said that the NGF had no basis to reject the proposed deductions of $418 million from the Paris Club refund.
Malami had told journalists at the State House Ministerial Briefing, that the governors originally created the liability whose payment they had also indemnified, therefore all the “noise making that is now being generated arising from the Governors forum,” is unjustified.
Reacting to the Minister’s claim at the end of their meeting at the State House Banquet Hall, on Wednesday evening, the governors accused Malami of “circumventing the law.”
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, told Journalists that the forum will institute legal action against the minister’s decision.

“The Minister is trying to circumvent the law, and going about various media houses to create the impression that this is a liability that governors have agreed to and committed to.
“We reject all of the claims he is making. These purported claims are fraudulent and will not stand as far as we are concerned. We will take all constitutional means to ensure that these purported claims are litigated upon by the highest courts in the land.
“We believe that the AGF is acting in personal and selfish interest that will ultimately become clear when this matter is fully addressed in the law courts,” he said, while reading the communique of the meeting.
