Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared support for the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar days after losing to the latter.
Quest Times earlier reported Atiku, who had the highest number of votes after polling 371 votes, defeated Wike who had 237 votes to emerge second runner up.
Shortly after Atiku was declared the winner of the election and the presidential flag-bearer of the PDP, many of the aspirants who contested the election issued congratulatory messages to Atiku.

However, Wike failed to congratulate Atiku despite stating that he was going to support whoever emerged candidate of the PDP.
Following this, the PDP flag-bearer took it upon himself to visit the Rivers governor and other key aspirants of the party in a bid to strengthen the unity of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Taking to his Facebook handle Monday, Wike promised to give his full support to the PDP Presidential flag-bearer, adding that his decision is in accordance with the vow he earlier made during the primary election.
“I made a vow to the Official Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigeria that i will support whoever emerges from the #PDPPresidentialPrimaries and I am not going to go back on my word.
“We cannot abandon the PDP, we will be fully supporting Atiku Abubakar,” Wike wrote.
