The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, has said that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is not one of the ‘saboteurs’ in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration who are working towards the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the February polls, contrary to some reports.
The governor made this known when he appeared on Arise TV as a guest on a programme.
According to the outspoken governor, people driving the campaign against the APC presidential nominee, Bola Tinubu, were those “who wanted President Buhari to be succeeded by someone else. And that person did not win the election.

“And that ‘someone else’ is not the Vice President because I saw some reports in the newspapers mentioning Professor Yemi Osinbajo. Not at all.
“These people are Northerners like us. They are Northerners like Buhari but are intent on undermining his legacy by ensuring that they cause a crisis because after eight years of Buhari, if he’s succeeded by another Northerner, there are chances that we’ll have more pockets of crises than we currently have.”
Recall that el-Rufai earlier spoke on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Wednesday where he said “I believe there are elements in the [Presidential] Villa that wants us to lose the elections because they didn’t get their way.
“They had their candidate. Their candidate didn’t win the primary. And I think they are still trying to get us to lose the election.”

The governor clarifies that his earlier statement that individuals were undermining the APC presidential nominee has been widely misconstrued. The governor felt obliged to clarify that he was referring to some Northerners who backed other candidates in the primary.
He explicitly said that Osinbajo was not one of those sabotaging the presidential aspirations of the APC candidate ahead of the 2023 elections.
