Okechukwu Ahaiwe has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary re-run for the 2023 poll, which was held today in Umuahia, Abia State’s capital.
Godwin Obaseki, Chairman of the Abia PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee and Edo State Governor, announced the outcomes of the fresh primary.
Mr. Ahaiwe is the current Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
He received the most votes, 469, out of the total number of valid votes cast in the new primary election.
Mayor Lucky Igbokwe received 12 votes, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu received 12 votes, and Sampson Uka Orji received 11 votes.
According to Governor Obaseki, there were a total of 12 invalid votes cast in the primary election.
The rerun comes after the death of the party’s former gubernatorial candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne.
