The Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to declare their assets before the commencement of campaigns on Wednesday.
The group said the presidential candidates need to declare their assets publicly and reject the use of vote-buying during the election.
In a tweet on Tuesday, SERAP said the presidential candidates must demonstrate commitment to the rule of law if elected.
Also included in this call are: Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi of Labour Party.
According to SERAP, “Ahead of the start of campaigns on 28 Sept, we’re again calling on @atiku, @officialABAT, @PeterObi, and @KwankwasoRM to immediately publish details of their assets, publicly reject vote-buying, and commit to the rule of law, if elected.”
SERAP is a nonprofit, legal & advocacy organisation devoted to promoting transparency, accountability & respect for socio-economic rights in Nigeria.
